Hello from Embsay

A happy "Hello" from the staff at Embsay Mills

Today's project we are sharing is a card 

made with the lovely Rachelle Anne Miller stamps

 by Crafters companion

which you can find HERE

This stamp was stamped on to the crafters companion watercolour card using versafine ink,

 and coloured with a combination of watercolours and coloured pencils.

It was the first time I'd used this watercolour card and I have to say it's lovely to use, I have tried lots of brands previously and i would definately choose this one again

I like how the pencil picked up the texture on the watercolour card.

I also went over the outline of the stamp with a black fine micron pen, this helps the image ' pop ', sometimes you can lose the depth of the outline when colouring with paints and of course it's handy if you miss areas when you have stamped the image.

Finally i used a signo white pen to add highlights, if you don't have one of these...it's a 'must have item' 

The coloured image on the stamps packaging gives you an excellent guide on colours and shading areas which really helps.

The dotty background card is from the gorgeous  Anna marie designs range

this has just arrived in store and online.

SATURDAY 17^TH MAY
 Rowan Workshop with Melanie Boocock 
Cables and Lace – a cushion.
This workshop is suitable for those who can knit and purl and would like to add decorative stitches to their knitting. You will learn how to knit cables and simple lace stitches. On the day you will make a decorative panel which can then be used to make a cushion.
Participants need to bring 5mm needles.

Summer and winter table runner with Rosemarie Bain 10am to 4pm
Make this beautiful table runner using the reversible quilt technique.

colouring on kraft card can be tricky as it generally tends to be more absorbent so soaks up ink from your markers and of course is darker so the trick is to use more vibrant/darker colours, but the neenah kraft is smooth coated and is a light kraft colour so is perfect to use!

Making this beautiful reversible slouch style shopping bag (the sample in our shop is stunning!) you’ll learn how  to cut out a simple pattern, sew seams and hems and lots of other top-tips that our experienced tutor Sue will pass on to you.

Will you make an Owl, a Cat or even a Fox shaped cushion? The choice is yours in this full day workshop that Sue has especially designed her own pattern for you to use.  Suitable for those of us with a little bit of basic machine sewing experience you’ll be practicing pattern cutting, machine and/or hand applique and machine sewing.  A  great workshop for those with basic sewing experience and who feel ready to “move on” to the next level of sewing techniques -  and you get to take home a gorgeous fun cushion as well!
 

Saturday 14th June – “Patchwork Cushion Cover” with Sue Kilbey, 10am – 4pm,   £35
Curious about patchwork and quilting but don’t know where to start? Why not try this taster session with us? In the first half of the day you’ll learn how to make a patchwork block which will then be used for your cushion cover in the second half of this full day class. With stunning matching piped edging and feature button fastening your cushion will complement your patch-work beautifully – this is really going to be a lovely project, we know  you’ll want to make more than one!  An ideal way to start patch-working without an massive initial outlay…a great introduction to this very addictive craft.  This workshop is suitable for intermediate sewers with some experience of machine sewing.

Janome Demonstration Day - 14th May

Join us for a Janome Demonstration Day on Wednesday 14th May at Samuel Taylors, Embsay Mills, Nr Skipton BD23 6QF - Tel 01756 700946 

The demonstration will be on general feet and accessories and quilting feet and accessories 

There will be two sessions 10.30am-12.30pm or 1.30pm-3.30pm 

The cost is only £5 per person per session which includes tea/coffee 

Customers who book onto one of the sessions will receive a 10% discount on all feet and accessories purchased on the day. 

Payment must be made in full at the time of booking. Once booked and paid for fees are non refundable.

Diane is a wizard with coming up with new ideas for shaped cards and in this workshop you will be using some of the very latest designs from the Crafters Companions range of stamps.

This class was scheduled originally for March but due to unforeseen circumstances had to be cancelled

Saturday 10^th May - Sizzling Sizzix 3 with Sarah McCrossan

10am - 4pm - £25

This is one of three workshops with Sarah helping you to create stunning cards and a mini project or two. Each class will be showcasing the varying ranges of dies produced by Sizzix, from Framelits to Bigz dies. Create shaped and folded cards. Make your own embellishments to enhance your projects. Stamping and embossing techniques will also be on the agenda trust us you will not be disappointed.

Sunday 18^th May - Dabble Day with Carol and Sue - 10am - 4pm

£49.50 which includes £20 of crafting goodies for you to take away

Due to popular demand we are having another Dabble Day with Sue & Carol

Carol will be working with the We R Memory Keepers Envelope Punch Board, dies and rubber stamps. You will be creating cards, gift bags and boxes.

Sue will be working with stencils, paste, inks and mica pigments to create stunning cards.

Susan, a highly accomplished stamper and card maker is a tutor new to Samuel Taylors this season. Please join her today to create fabulous cards using the Jofy design stamps and templates from Paper Artsy. Inks and chalk paints will be used to enhance your cards.

Saturday 21^st June - Bags Buttons and Bows with Sarah McCrossan

In today’s workshop you will concentrate on embossing paste techniques with inks and screens and will create at least two fully finished cards.

Create two cards in this mornings workshop using bleaching techniques, (bleach will be used so it may be a good idea to bring along some protective clothing such as an apron as we cannot accept responsibility for any damage to clothing). Floral stamps and shrink plastic will also be used to create the floral fantasy.

Saturday 12^th July - Mica, Mists and Sprays with Susan Moran

Ever wanted to learn how to create wonderful effects on your cards using mica, mists and sprays then this is the workshop to attend. Stencilling, masking and stamping techniques will also be used in this workshop.
